Computer Security Blog Launch
Computer Security Blog Launch
I’m very excited to be starting a blog related to my professional career. I’ve created a few other websites focused more on hobbies of mine than valuable information. I hope my professional colleagues will engage in discussions with me for mutual benefit.
I also wanted to include some posts not filled with “techie talk ” to assist general users. Protecting oneself from computer crimes is not just for experts anymore. The internet has exploded during the last decade and almost every household has a computer. More and more information is being stored electronically each day. Many personal home computers hold spreadsheets of financial data, personal information, budgets, statements, etc… It’s up to each of us to safeguard our computers.
Think of it like a robbery. A thief prowls outside your home looking for an open window, but finds the door itself is unlocked. The thief enters your dwelling and moseys through all your things taking what he wants. It’s not law enforcements fault that you were robbed. We must take it upon ourselves individually to put basic defenses in place. In this case, lock your doors and windows, install an alarm system, and fortify areas of vulnerability (ie bars on weak garage windows). The thief would then need to use brute force to enter, which would activate an alarm notifying yourself and police of the intruder.
Hopefully, this blog will increase your awareness of computer security and assist you in combating cyber threats.
I’ve launched the blog with four pages of interest.
Mission – a mission statement for this blog
News & Alerts – a compilation of feeds from top security organizations
About Me – a brief career bio to lend credibility to this blog
Ask My Advice – a question form to ask about topics not yet posted
On a parting note, I intend to expand the features of SecurePuter as time goes on, such as a variety of feeds types, a free resources section, valuable site links, and probably much more. This will be an ever evolving endeavor to benefit you. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
